Palette inspiration: The Siena International Photo Awards

It’s a wide world out there, and at The Chromologist we love seeing new visual imagery that comes from far-off corners of the globe, pictures that often produce very surprising and unfamiliar colour combinations and ideas. Our latest fix of colour inspiration comes from the Siena International Photo Awards. The annual contest is run by Art Photo Travel, a no-profit association that creates cultural initiatives to promote traditions, cultures and natural beauty from all around the world. Open to all photographers – professional and amateur – the competition receives thousands of entries each year, with over 50,000 pictures entered for the 2016 prize.

Net Mending, Hoang Long Ly, Vietnam

The competition features eleven categories, encompassing natural beauty, wildlife, sports and travel. We were especially struck by photos documenting farming, fishing and harvesting practises from around the world, producing images of beauty and colour that is often accidental to process, and a world away from the industrial images of farming we often think of.
